Avoid unnecessary fines or costs
Change your address with these key organisations
It’s often the little things that trip you up.
You’ve just completed an epic yet seamless move, and are safely ensconced in your fabulous new home. But if you forget to update your address with these important organisations, it can come back to bite you.
1. Motor vehicle licence and registration
If you don’t update your address with your motor vehicle licence and registration authority, you might miss infringement notices or registration renewal notices, potentially incurring additional penalties. You can also strike trouble if your license has incorrect address details.
2. Electoral commission
Notify the electoral commission to avoid penalties for failing to vote at federal, state or local council elections.
3. Insurance providers
Update your address with your insurers to avoid problems when making a claim. Your premium may even reduce! Be sure to discuss any policy changes required as a result of your move.
4. Tax office / your accountant
Inform your accountant or the tax office of your new address to ensure you don’t miss any important tax information – especially if you run a business or are self-employed.
5. Other financial institutions
Update your records with your banks, superannuation funds and other investments to ensure you don’t miss any important updates.
6. Medical practitioners
If you need to find a new medical practitioner or vet, ask your previous practitioner to forward your records to your new provider.
7. Pet registration
And finally, update pet registration details to keep your pet safe and avoid potential fines.
